Audition for Dolphin Theatre's first play for 2011.

Ah, Paris! The wine, the art, the music, the romance… Jill Hyem’s latest play, “We’ll Always Have Paris” is a feel-good comedy set in the city of love, about three women of a “certain age” who experience love, laughter, loss and tears, and importantly, the joys and challenges of growing old. This charming, thoughtful and thought-provoking contemporary play premiered in 2010 in Oxfordshire, England.

Cast:
The English…
Nancy: 60s. Retired headmistress, a recent émigré from England, now living in her beloved city of Paris. She is tidy, independent and in control, but is also blossoming in her new-found freedom in the city of wine, love and art.
Anna: 60s. Recently widowed – and free – after nursing a sick husband for over 20 years. Anna begins the play as a bit of a shy mouse but undergoes a lovely transformation after a short time in “gay Paree”.
Raquel: 60s. Classmate of Anna and Nancy. Used to have pigtails and buck teeth. Now (after many nips and tucks) wears tight tops, short skirts and searches for her next toy-boy.

The French…
Charlot: 50s. A Frenchman with a penchant for the English ladies. Actor by night, plumber by day, Charlot is an overall fun-loving, playful character. Charlot is divorced from his American wife, who lives back in the US with their daughter, whom he misses dearly. Charlot strums a guitar and sings a small snatch of song during the play. French accent.
Madame Boussiron: 50s. Described as a “bitch” and “wicked witch of the west” by Nancy. Upper crusty, uptight and hates the English, Madame B is a wonderful caricature of a snobby French woman. French accent.
