Art Speed Dating – fall in love with art!
On Friday November 12, Aucklanders are invited to find out what makes the art world tick at New Zealand’s first Art Speed Dating event. As part of the inaugural Art Week Auckland, the event will match art world know-it-alls with art world novices for an evening of rapid-fire Q & A. Whether you’re an ambitious artist, an ardent admirer or just plain curious about the art world, Art Speed Dating is the place to ask those burning questions.
The event offers a unique opportunity to learn more about art in a spontaneous environment. Every participant will have 3 minutes with each of the 10 experts, providing a chance to ask them something about the art world they have always wanted to know but were afraid to ask.
How do you know who’s hot and who’s not? What makes art valuable? How do you start a collection? How do you get discovered? Why do art dealers always wear black?
Art Week Speed Dating promises to be an entertaining and insightful glimpse into the Auckland art scene. Hosted by 95bFM in the iconic St Kevin’s Arcade, Art Speed Dating kicks off on Friday, November 12, from 6-8 pm.
The art experts on the Speed Dating panel will include:
Dan Arps – winner of the Walters Prize 2010.
Hamish Keith – prominent art and culture writer.
John White –owner of Stark White gallery.
Emma Bugden – director of Artspace.
Sarah Hopkinson – ran Gambia Castle before opening her own gallery.
Paul Baragwanath – art consultant
Andrew Gomez – curator at the Wallace Arts Trust.
Evan Woodruffe – manager of Studio Art Supplies, artist and art teacher.
Sam Mitchell – artist and winner of the 2010 Wallace Art Award
Tim Melville – gallery owner.
Emma Fox – gallery manager.
The event is free but limited to 100 participants. First come, first served!
