Anne Frank and the time leading up to and including her famed diary writing are the focus of this photographic and documentary exhibition. Viewers are encouraged to walk through the timeline of text and imagery seeing the political developments that brought so much change to the lives of the Frank family and so many others.

The message is that human rights should never be in jeopardy. Sadly atrocities on the basis of racism, religion, political, and other biases continue around the world today. A documentary by Anna Cottrell and journalist and interviewer Ian Fraser with NZ holocaust survivors brings to life the slow erosions to freedoms that people accept until the unthinkable and unacceptable happens.

An element of the exhibition is the button collection begun by Moriah School. Each button represents one of the 1.5 million children who died during the holocaust that swept across Europe prior to and during WWII. Nathan Homestead will run a series of button-making workshops to add to the Moriah School’s Collection, helping to visualise just how many is 1.5 million.

Supported by the NZ Netherlands Foundation

Opening: 10 November, 6pm

Gallery hours: Mon – Friday 9am – 5pm, Weekends 1pm – 4pm
