The More FM Bloke Free Triathlon series is just that. It has been set up just for the ladies so you can take part in a triathlon without worrying about there being any testosterone at the race, and believe me there is a difference.
Now we know for some the biggest hurdle is the swim, so we have thought about that and tried to work out a way that makes this obstacle easy to overcome.
This series is recommended for anyone aged 13 years and over. There are three events in this series with the idea that you can progress through the series to gain your confidence and also get to the big goal of achieving a triathlon in open water. Yes ladies, this is very possible.
You can enter as an individual or as a team. Either way you are going to have a great time. Below are the distances and also the lovely people who sponsors this great series. Each of them have specials available for members but they all cater for ladies needs in their own special way.
The first race is held on Sunday 28 November 2010 at the Clive War Memorial Pool.
This is an indoor, heated 25 metre pool. You will start in waves of 2 at a time and you can decided where you stack up with speed so the faster and more confident swimmers can go first and leave breathing space and plenty of room for the slower swimmers, and also for those who like to take a breather at the end of each length. We event let you bring along a flutter board if that is what it takes to get you into the water!
The second race is held on Sunday 12 December 2010 at the Hastings Aquatic Centre which is situated in Frimley Road in Hastings. This is an outdoor 50m pool and we again start in waves of 2 so it is still very civilized.
The third and final race is held on Sunday 13 February 2011 at Pandora Pond, Ahuriri. We know how busy many of you get with summer holidays and school holidays so that is why we have given you January off. Now before you panic, the swim is in open water but it is along the shore line and if you are not a confident swimmer you can swim right along the shoreline in waist deep water. You can stand up at any time and take a breather if you need. As there is much more space we will start in waves of 25, but there is plenty of room so there's no kicking or bumping into other ladies.
So that is the swim sorted - now about the cycle. The first two events have a 10km cycle and the final event has a 14km cycle. The courses have been designed to be flat and easy for the beginner to take part. No nasty big hills but if you love speed you will be able to enjoy yourselves on these course.
Finally there is a 3km run or walk to complete before you cross the finish line. We stress this is a walk or run and you can wait for your friends if you are in a team and walk or run with them too if you like. There will be water on the run/walk course so no need for you to go thirsty.
As you can see there are three different venues which gives you plenty of variety and a chance to extend yourself each time.
