2010 has seen Rachel Dawick emerge as an established songwriter with two collaborative songs being released in August/September by EMI in Greece and the UK. 2010 - a great way to celebrate the completion of her MA in Songwriting.
Originally from New Zealand Rachel has spent the last six years playing at festivals and clubs across the UK.
Her latest album 'Ed's Bar and Grill' released at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2009 saw a move from the more reflective and 'worldly folk' influenced album 'Journeys' released in 2008, to a definite American groove "a bit bluesy, a bit western swing, a bit Marlene Dietrich" with songs that have a "world-weary feeling to them - as if they were recorded in black and white".
Rachel has been on the folk circuit since forming "Ruby Blue" in 2003, an all female Celtic blues trio, based in Christchurch and playing in the NZ folk circuit and releasing their EP in 2004.
The last six years has seen her maturing as a songwriter and as a performer with two solo albums released and a third due to finish this autumn and released in February 2011 back in her home country, NZ - "Picking at the Bones" is the accumulation of her work whilst studying MA Songwriting year at Bath Spa University and her move into performing full-time.
2011 will also see the formation of a new duo and a tour of the UK and Europe in the spring and the first tour of the United States in the autumn.
With a sound that combines the grit of Mary Gauthier, the lilt of Joan Baez and the depth of Natalie Merchant. Rachel has a voice that will stay with you for a long time. This is an artist to watch in 2011.
Guest appearance by Susan Grant, considered one of the best female finger-style guitarists in New Zealand.
