"A victory for theatre, for the transforming power of the imagination to turn devastation into beauty." New Yorker
"Daring and dazzling! The most ambitious American play of our time: an epic that ranges from earth to heaven, from the tragedy of AIDS to the camp comedy of drag queens to the death or at least the absconding of God". Newsweek
"Fiercely humane, gloriously informed, bitchy, compassionate, also falling down funny". Newsday
From the newly established company Script Ease Productions Inc. who brought you Richard II in March 2010, will set the stage in ethereal light again with Angels In America!
Two- time Tony award winner for best play!
"Angels in America" is the finest drama of our time, speaking to us of an entire era of life and death. In its sweep and imagination, it defines the collapse of a moral universe during the Regan years in an unforgettable way, transcending its specific time in the richness of its portrait of an American lost, perhaps to be regained.
Tony Kushner's epic sense of loss and betrayal and longed-for saving grace amounts to a fantastic journey of the heart and mind crying out against the disintegration of tolerance and cities and certain eternal dreams. Funny, moving, compassionate and a real look at humankind this play is easily one of the greatest plays of the twentieth century.
Manhatten, God has abandoned heaven, death swings the scythe of AIDS. Prior Walter tells Louis, his lover of four years, he is ill: Louis cannot cope with the prospect of Prior's illness and leaves. As disease and loneliness ravage Prior, guilt invades Louis. Joe Pitt, an attorney who is a Mormon and republican, is pushed by right-wing fixer Roy Cohn toward a job at the Justice Department. Both Joe and Roy are in the closet: Joe out of shame and religious turmoil, Roy to preserve his power and access. Joe's wife Harper is strung out on valium, aching to escape a sexless marriage.
An angel invites Prior to be a prophet in death, Joe's mother Hannah and Prior's ex lover and former drag queen, Belize, help's him to choose.
Set in 1985 Script Ease's production will be a designer's dream with beautiful fashion, breathtaking set and dazzling performances!
Performed in the intimate University Theatre at the Arts Centre, this is real living room theatre at its best.
Script Ease Productions Inc. was born in March 2010 after it's triumphant production of Shakespeare's Richard II, at the Great Hall. A company of fresh new actors and truly innovative designers.
You won’t want to miss it!
