Due to popular demand UC is repeating the lecture we delivered at UC on Wednesday 20 October in the CBD.

On the early morning of September 4th, the ground beneath the Canterbury Plains ruptured in a complex and violent magnitude 7.1 earthquake that brought parts of Christchurch to its knees.

How did this rupture occur and why didn't we know about this fault? Why the aftershocks and when will they stop? What have we learned about this earthquake and what is the likelihood of another major earthquake on this or other nearby faults?

Dr. Mark Quigley from UC Geological Sciences has been seeking answers to these questions since the morning of the 4th, and will share these with you in this talk.

Seating is strictly limited, please arrive early to ensure your seat in the theatre.

Thank you to Shipley's Audiovisual for their support with this event.

The Red Cross will be onsite accepting donations.
