A special fundraising event to benefit the Hollywood Cinema refurbishment project - ensuring the on-going survival of this unique home for Auckland's historic Wurlitzer pipe organ. Join us for an afternoon of laughter and entertainment!
Before the days of sound movies we had the “silents” and these motion pictures were brought to life, first by costly orchestras and then in the 1920s, by the mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ. Hollywood Cinema “House Organist” Ron Clark, will bring the silent screen to life as he accompanies the classic Harold Lloyd comedy “Hot Water” with music and sound effects provided by the Wurlitzer pipe organ.
This is the very first screening of this vintage 1924 silent movie at the Hollywood Cinema with the Wurlitzer organ. Hot Water is an episodic look at married life and in-law problems. Adventures include a ride on a crowded tram with a live turkey; a wild spin in a new car with the in-laws in tow; and a sequence in which Hubby accidentally chloroforms his mother-in-law and is convinced that he has killed her. When she begins sleep-walking, he thinks that she has returned to haunt him!
Tickets on sale at the door, on the day from 1.15pm.
