It’s a good idea to go somewhere special on your anniversary and, for the last act of their 2010 silver jubilee, top chamber choir Viva Voce is heading for Hollywood. But to avoid a long flight to LA, the choir has opted to bring the silver screen to the Auckland (Tinsel) Town Hall, where in late November it will sing the great choral music of the movies, or in some cases – as conductor and founder John Rosser puts it – “the music we feel choirs should have sung”.

The programme ranges from works by such classical composers as Mozart, Rossini, Albinoni, Orff and Barber to the lighter but just as film-worthy offerings of Arlen, Mancini and Randy Newman. More importantly perhaps, the slew of movies you might have heard them in includes Platoon, A Clockwork Orange, Excalibur, Gallipoli, My Left Foot, The Truman Show, The Pink Panther, The Wizard of Oz, Toy Story, The Lord of the Rings trilogy and O Brother, Where Art Thou?

With a mixture of a cappella, and accompanied pieces – including several on the newly refurbished and spectacular Auckland Town Hall Organ – this is a concert not to be missed!
