Felix Mendelssohn The Hebrides, op.26 (Fingal’s Cave)
Carl Maria von Weber Bassoon Concerto
Felix Mendelssohn Symphony No.4, op.90, A major (Italian)
Mendelssohn and Weber take the stage in this concert of popular classics. Ben Hoadley was a stunning soloist in 2009 with his Mozart performance so we welcome him back to play the dazzling Weber concerto. Two contrasting works by Mendelssohn make up the rest of this programme.
The Hebrides or Fingal’s Cave overture has a nautical theme and takes the audience from lyrical charm through storm and turbulence and then back to calm. The Italian Symphony is Mendelssohn’s finest work – a virtuoso display that bubbles and sparkles with light and spirit.
