A live digital dub performance from Rhombus In Dub & Dub Terminator - bringing the studio to Rakinos to mash it up to mark the official release of Dub Terminator & High Freequency - Soul Island Vol. 1!

The Soul Island story:

The Soul Island label was born late 2009 when New Zealand based producer Chris McLay (a.k.a. Dub Terminator) met with Spain-based producer, Jacobo Miquel (a.k.a. High Freequency) who was looking for someone to collaborate with and create remixes for the vocal dubplate recordings he had made with some big Jamaican artists.

High Freequency sent a few initial vocal a capellas by the likes of Yellowman, Sizzler and John Holt to Dub Terminator, who then laid down some smashing remixes. The duo then took things a step further, and began sending fresh riddims to other vocalists around the globe for them to write vocals for.

Dub Terminator spent weeks dreaming up and producing the riddims and forwarded them on to High Freequency who then got busy hooking up the artists and booking studios around the globe for the tracks to be recorded in. Once the riddims arrived back to the studio in NZ, it became clear things were all go - it was a real thing! Amazing tracks by amazing artists from Jamaica to Canada, UK to Africa flooded the wires over the next few months.

Dub Terminator finished crafting the tracks with his own distinctive mix of bass heavy roots, dubstep and downbeat. Tunes created with the aim of bringing a fresh new sound to your ears! A conscious blend of the individual styles and unique cultures brought together by the project. Dub Terminator & High Freequency proudly bring you ‘Soul Island Vol. 1’ a selection of the first songs recorded for Soul Island.

Rhombus in Dub:

Rhombus in Dub is the creation of Wellington based Rhombus founders/producers Thomas Voyce, Simon Rycroft and Koa Williams - an alternative configuration of the Rhombus live band.

Their iconic musical styles combine elements of the South Pacific mixed with electronic dub 'n' bass, hip-hop, soul, funk, reggae and more!

Bringing the studio to the stage, the three producers take their unique blend of all things heavyweight and mash it up live for the dance-floor massive. Party-people will run the gauntlet of musical styles like never before, with a live mix of exclusive dub-heavy mash-ups of original tunes, bootlegs and exclusive Rhombus classics remixed!

Rhombus in Dub has performed across New Zealand, Australia, Japan and the UK.

Recently releases include Rhombus in Dub Volume 1 & Volume 2 promo CDs as well the 'The Bubble' 12" vinyl, featuring vocals from the Godfather of UK Hip Hop - Rodney P. Dub Terminator and DJ Skitz (UK) also provide exclusive remixes, available on vinyl only.
