Most organisations in New Zealand/Aotearoa are small to medium in size, with relatively few employees and formal “HR” resources. Yet these organisations still have to make important HR decisions, from designing jobs to selecting people to do them, developing staff capabilities, and managing health and wellbeing. This workshop is not designed for practising work psychologists, or highly qualified HR professionals. It is geared toward SME owners and operators, who would like to learn a little more about how workplace psychology might be able to assist with everyday decisions at work.
The one-day workshop is split into four modules, each with a minimum of theory and a modicum of practical skills. We will introduce how to: (1) design a job (job description); (2) structure an interview for that job (selection function); (3) assess training needs for job incumbents (training needs analysis); and (4) appraise workers’ performance in the role (performance management). No previous training in work psychology is required: This is introductory level, not advanced.
The workshop will be held on level 3 of the Massey University Centre for Psychology. For tickets, please email h.mcmaster@massey.ac.nz or call 09 414 0800 extn. 41244.
