Come and join members of the local community and other organisations at the celebrations to mark the opening of a major upgrade of the Brunner Mine Site, near Dobson, east of Greymouth on SH7.
The Brunner Mine site holds a special place in the history of New Zealand. Not only did it become the centre of New Zealand's largest coal mine it was the scene of New Zealand's largest mining accident.
A 1km walking track wanders around the site so that you see the interesting historic remains and recently re-installed historic rail connections and viewing areas, landscaping and fencing.
Two new visitor information shelters will provide you with information about the site and you can pick up a self-guide brochure and listen to an audio story.
There will be free guided tours, music and other performances, a wreath laying ceremony, speeches and food stalls. The ceremony will be opened by our Minister of Conservation.
The live music will feature Phil Garland, Irish Folk and The Coalrangers!
There will be plenty of fun activities to keep the kids entertained.
There are car park facilities in Taylorville. It is a short walk from here to the Mine Site, and shuttles will be running from The Buck's Head Tavern.
There will also be car park facilities at Dobson School, SH7, where there will be shuttles running from the School to the Mine Site.
