The NZSO and Dnation explore what happens when sight and sound come together.
This is a unique chance to see the NZSO in a new light.

The 2010 Made in New Zealand evokes bright colours: the vibrant Aegean (in the works by Arnold Trowell, Claire Cowan, and John Psathas) and the paintings of Chagall in the Ross Harris/Vincent O’Sullivan collaboration The Floating Bride, The Crimson Village. Soprano Jenny Wollerman gives the first public performance of this song cycle while the illustrious English violinist, Anthony Marwood, will give the world premiere of Ross Harris’ Violin Concerto No.1. Tecywn Evans conducts.

As always, this concert combines the very new with the fascinatingly historic. Arnold Trowell left New Zealand at age 15 and later became Katherine Mansfield’s lover. His Waters of Peneios achieved considerable success in the UK in the 1920s and 30s. John Psathas’ Seikilos is similarly inspired by ancient legend.

Arnold TROWELL The Waters of Peneios
Ross HARRIS Violin Concerto No.1 (World Premiere)
Ross HARRIS The Floating Bride, The Crimson Village
Claire COWAN Legend of the Trojan Bird
John PSATHAS Seikilos
