What makes someone commit murder? Are humans merely pawns in the battle between forces of good and evil? Director Chris O’Grady tackles one of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedies in a dark rollercoaster ride of violent ambition.
Returning victorious from battle, Macbeth meets three witches who prophesy that he will rise to the throne of Scotland, though its’ heirs will be the descendants of another general, Banquo.
Spurred by this prophecy and the encouragement of Lady Macbeth, he murders the sleeping King Duncan and assumes the throne. He then murders Banquo and his son, and Lady Macduff and her three children, believing that his position would then be secure since the witches have promised that ‘none of woman born shall harm Macbeth’.
But Great Birnam Wood is stirring.
