Baroque Voices, directed by Pepe Becker present 'Alleluia: a newë work', Sunday 30th May at St Mary of the Angels in Wellington
This annual event has become a highlight for some, in the 'cross-over' worlds of Early Music and Contemporary Music: it juxtaposes Medieval European music with Contemporary New Zealand music, based on themes of separation/distance, life/death, love/loss and duality.
This year we will present premiere performances of new works by NZ composers Gillian Whitehead, Carol Shortis, Mark Smythe, Ross Carey, Jason Kaminski and Pepe Becker, as well as a work by Australian composer Rhonda Berry.
In addition to the eight voices, we have the extra dimension of traditional, early and modern instruments: namely, hurdy-gurdy, drum, recorder, taonga puoro, didgeridoo and flute.
It promises to be an exciting melée of vocal and instrumental timbres.
