Hit US songwriter returning in May to teach weekend seminars. For songwriters who want to improve their craft, develop their creativity, and get to the next level.

Hit songwriter/best selling author/music publisher Jason Blume will present a two-day songwriting seminar in Wellington in conjunction with New Zealand Music Month.

Having been invited to present a master class at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (founded by Sir Paul McCartney), as well as having taught for universities and top songwriting organisations throughout the world, Jason combines his skills as a consummate teacher with the practical tools he's developed as a mega-successful, multi-genre songwriter to inspire songwriters; helping them develop both their craft and their business sense - and to achieve their dreams.

Jason’s songs are on albums that have sold more than 50 million albums. He’s one of only a few writers to ever have songs on Billboard’s Pop, R & B and Country charts – all at the same time! His songs have been recorded in virtually all genres – from hard rock to Christian and folk, with plenty of pop in between.

His songs have featured on top TV shows including “Scrubs” and “Friday Night Lights”, as well as in top movies.

Jason is also the author of three of the bestselling books on songwriting – all published by Billboard Books – and he is acknowledged as one of the top songwriting instructors in the world.

Jason analyses current (and past) hits to distill what makes songs successful and passes that information onto his students. This is by no means a “paint by numbers” method, but one whereby he teaches songwriters how to communicate unique, personal truths in universal ways that engage listeners. Numerous students of Jason have had number one hits on various Billboard charts in the USA. He has a natural gift for motivating and inspiring others, whatever their dream may be.

Jason states, “I can’t teach people to be talented—but there are reasons why some melodies and lyrics make an emotional connection with listeners—and those are things I can teach. I’m ecstatic that three of my students have recently had #1 singles. The seminar will include many of the tools and techniques that I observe in successful songs in various styles and genres – but will also give attendees an opportunity to ‘try on’ those tools during creative exercises. It gives me a chance to work hands-on with each of the attendees and help them express themselves in ways that connect with their listeners.”

Jason himself has also celebrated a No. 1 song in Japan recently.

At the 2009 Taxi Road Rally songwriting convention in LA, Jason’s classes were beyond packed – and spilling out into the hallways. His monthly BMI songwriting seminars in Nashville are so popular they've had songwriters in line at 3 AM !
Jason receives a lot more teaching invites than he accepts.

Fortunately for New Zealanders, Jason loves New Zealand. Also fortunate for us, while being an extremely successful songwriter and author, Jason has discovered that he has a passion for teaching.
