Mahara Gallery presents live music from local musicians to celebrate NZ Music Month during our exhibition Select/ed: Kapiti/Horowhenua Annual Review.
Its the black sand, west coach beach Raumati South that she calls home and the locals there will tell you this woman is sunshine and storm. Straight up.
Clarke’s original music reflects a love of voice, rhythm and soul. The essence of her Ngati Kahungunu and Celtic lines blend in what is definitely a kiwi sound.
Written from a sensitive eye on life her songs are served warm and gutsy.
Karen has recently released her debut collection entitled “Is that right, Barbie” with a tapestry of local musicians featuring including Troy Hunt, Nigel Parry, Anje Glinderman and Bob Cooper-Grundy among many.
Karen is known for her smokey vocals, driving guitar and emotive performance … you’ll remember you’ve met. You’ll hear elements of jazz, blues, kiwi pop and alt country in the indie-folk-femme mix.
