Lopdell House Gallery presents a series of six lectures to feed your mind over the winter months. The sessions will comprise one lecture or a collection of short lectures, with a discussion to follow.

Lecture 3 will be presented by the gallery curator, Kate Wells on the current exhibition, the other five will be projected images of filmed lectures given by the world's leading minds. This series is made possible with the assistance of The University of Auckland (Lecture 1) and the TED organization (Lectures 2, 4, 5, 6).

TED is a small nonprofit organisation devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with the annual TED Conference in Long Beach, California, and the TEDGlobal conference in Oxford UK, TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Program, the new TEDx community program, this year's TEDIndia Conference and the annual TED Prize.

TED mission: Spreading ideas. They believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. So they're building a clearing house that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world's most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other. The website, launched April 2007, is an ever-evolving work in progress, and you're an important part of it. Have an idea? They want to hear from you.

Thanks to the resources freely given by the University of Auckland and TED we are able to share in this fantastic international knowledge out here in our own Waitakere.
