Wine is most often appreciated via the palate or the eye, but its production and consumption are also rich sources of sound. It’s these that Stanier Black-Five explores in Oenomatopoeia, an intriguing sound installation staged in the atmospheric underground cellar of Scenic Cellars. Wine never sounded so good!
Stanier Black-Five is a Christchurch-based sound artist and performer, who also writes about wine as Jo Burzynska, the wine columnist and wine editor for the New Zealand Herald’s Viva magazine and author of Wine Class: All you need to know about wine in New Zealand.
This is the first work combining these two major areas of her interest and expertise.

Many thanks for the support and sounds provided by the installation’s sponsor, Pegasus Bay.
Presented as a part of the ERUPT Lake Taupo Festival.
Staged against a palette of blazing autumn colour and the epic volcanic central plateau, the 8th biennial festival is packed with quality national and international entertainment.
Move and shake at ERUPT Lake Taupo Festival 6-16th May 2010.
