Manawatu's 10th Annual Heart Stopper Challenge

Get your team together and take the plunge to celebrate the 10th Annual Heart Stopper Challenge.

Heart Children New Zealand Manawatu branch, is running the 10th Annual Heart Stopper Challenge during Heart Kids Week, 23rd - 29th May 2010.

The Heart Stopper Challenge has become the national signature fundraising event for Heart Children New Zealand, created by the Manawatu branch in 2001. It is unique and has strong links to heart children and their circumstances.

Prior to heart operations heart children are often cooled down in ice to slow down their metabolism, sometimes turning blue in the process. This was the inspiration for the creation of the Heart Stopper Challenge. Plunging into a pool spiked with ice is symbolic of what happens to children having open heart surgery; they are put on a bypass machine which beats for them while their heart is stopped. The heart stopper tries to symbolize what the kids go through.

We need your Help! Get your teams together today, choose a dress theme, the wackier the better & take the plunge. Ask you work mates & friends to participant in the Heart Stopper Challenge. It involves jumping into a pool of icy cold water for 5 minutes.

This is our branch's main fundraising event and the more people that take the plunge will directly increase the awareness of the Manawatu Branch in the community. $1000 in vouches have been donated as prizes this year for the individual that raise the most funds, team that raises the most funds, the best dressed team. And the business team that raises the most funds, for which there is also a shield currently held by Gribbles Veterinary.
