Take this unique opportunity to run or walk through the Waipoua Forest home to the ancient Kauri.
This year is in its 3rd year and numbers are limited to 350 so book early. The course starts at Tane Mahuta Car Park on SH12 and finishes at the Waipoua Forest Visitors Centre.
The 12km course is mainly downhill with some flat. 10km on SH12 and then the last 2km is on a bush track with a shallow river ford near the end of the 2km. If there has been heavy rain the last 2km will be on unsealed road. The event organiser will make this decision based on conditions on the day of the event.
Start times will be staggered by category entered. The runners will start at 10am. The fast walkers soon after and, the casual walkers will follow directly behind them.
All participants must catch a bus to the start of event. Free buses will depart from
• Opononi/Omapere/Waimamaku
• The Finish Line Car Park - Waipoua Forest Visitors Centre
Entrants will be taken to the start area. Prize giving will be held at the Waipoua Forest Visitor Centre after the last participant finishes - approximately 1pm.
There will be spot prizes - participants can check the list available at the finish line and collect a prize if their number corresponds. For the major prizes participants must be present at prize giving and show event number to collect prizes.
As this is a fun event, no times or placings will be recorded - but we will be having special prizes for the first adult female, adult man and first youth across the finish line - these first place participants will be gifted a native tree to be planted in the Waipoua Forest.
Food and refreshments will be available to buy at the end of the race.
The Waipoua Forest fun run & walk is a very unique opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of our majestic Waipoua Kauri forest as well as perhaps aim for a personal best over 12km.
