Young Blood Violin Masterworks brings together some of the most talented young violinists in the South Island under the artistic direction Oleg Kotorovych to perform a recital in Nelson for the first time.
The programme brings together favourite masterworks and show pieces that progress from the virtuosic period of violin performance and composition in Europe through to the modern era with works not often performed in New Zealand.
Masterwork composers include Wieniawski, Paganini, Saint-Saēns and Sarassate. Modern era works include such Composers as Pärt with his unique chant style compositions. In short the programme offers something for all violin aficionados.
The performers range in age from 12 to 17 years old. These are not ordinary young people but individuals dedicated to striving towards excellence in their chosen craft.
Many are members of the Pettman Junior Academy. Two were semi-finalists in the National Concerto Competition this year while one member was second runner-up, at the age of 15, in the National Concerto Competition. A number are members the NZSO National Youth Orchestra and many have achieved Trinity and Royal Schools diplomas at an early age.
