The Hawke’s Bay Cultural Trust / Ruawharo Ta-u-Rangi cares for a diverse and fascinating collection; from the ‘books and curiosities’ amassed by the Mechanics Institute 150 years ago, to major works of contemporary New Zealand art.

Six Degrees uses the popular idea of the six degrees of separation (by which everyone is, or can be, connected through six ‘steps’) to connect some of the earliest objects in the collection to its most recent additions.

Uncovering a wealth of hidden stories and unexpected connections, this exhibition is the perfect opportunity to enjoy some of the more unusual items in the collection before they get packed away for the redevelopment.
