The Sacred Hill Wines Off Road Duathlon Series will be held at the Eskdale Mountain Bike Park thanks to the support of the HB Mountain Biking Club.

There are three different events in each race of the series. These events are held in June and July. The event will run in the following order: Run then MTB followed by Prizegiving at the same venue as transition.

You can do it as individuals or as a team where one person runs and the other person does the MTB leg. If you are a Mountain Biker but can't find a runner just turn up and we will sort that out for you as well. So really, what's holding you back?

Take a look at the different courses:
• The City Fitness Duathlon is more suited to children and beginners to mountain biking with the course based on absolute entry level and fun. No scary bits and no big up hills or down hills. The run is a 2.5km run on a gravel road with no nasty up hills to worry about followed by the 2.75km MTB.

• The Horleys Duathlon is more of the same. Run 2.5km first and then just add a little more onto the mountain bike. which is 4.75km long. This is suited to older children and those wanting a bit more of a workout in distance without the difficulty. Again suited to beginners. You do not even need a really flash mountain bike to do these two courses. Anything with fatter tyres will do the trick.

• The Avanti Plus Hastings Duathlon is more suited to the intermediate mountain biker or above. The run is two laps (5km) of the course that the shorter distances run, which is mainly flat with a couple of slight bumps on a gravel road. The MTB is a 10km course which covers all types of terrain. This course requires a greater amount of fitness and would not be recommended for children or beginners.

Walkers are welcome and encouraged to take part.

Registration is on the day and opens from 9am and the races begin at 10am. Race day is easy - just turn up from 9am to register and pay your entry fee (don't forget to bring cash).

Entry fee is as follows: $15 for individuals, if you are a HB Multisport Club Member, $20 for any other individuals and that includes HB Mountain Bike Club Members, and finally $20 per team if you are in a team no matter what your membership is.

You will then be given a race number and shown where transition is set up for you to put your bike in. It is a gun start for each race meaning you all start at the word "go".

If your are in a team your runner will start first and when they have finished their run or walk they will tag you and then you set off on your MTB and of course you get the glory of crossing the finish line. We wont be cancelling our events so it will go ahead rain, hail or shine. Isn't mud compulsory for any form of mountain biking anyway?

Prize giving will be started at the MTB Park directly after the last person has finished. There will be only spot prizes so everyone is in with a chance to win!

There will be no eftpos facilities so ensure that you bring cash. Food and drinks will be able to be purchased at the race venue.

To get to this event go to the Taite Road Carpark and cross over the Fence. Follow the limestone road about 500m and you will see the registration (Red) Tend. From there you will be shown where transition is and be told exactly what to expect.

The course will be fully marked and marshals will also be out there to make sure you don't get lost.

This is a guaranteed morning of fun!

Is Mr Bish of Sacred Hill going to compete? I went to school with him briefly in a town we'd both probably prefer to forget...
