Ply-ability celebrates the career of one of New Zealand’s most important modernist designers – Garth Chester – and his breakthrough plywood furniture of the 1940s and 50s. Then, using Chester’s favoured material, the exhibition moves forward to look at other New Zealand designers who have been similarly inspired by plywood.

It presents rare examples of local modernist furniture, experimental works by amateur designers and designs by some of New Zealand’s leading contemporary furniture designers.

Ply-ability is accompanied by a comprehensive publication, packed with full colour illustrations and new essays by curator Lucy Hammonds and design writer Rigel Sorzano.
