On Friday 7 May, up to 30 North Island brown kiwi will be transferred from Hauturu/Little Barrier Island to Pukaha Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre, to join other kiwi released into the Pukaha Mount Bruce forest since 2003.
The kiwi will be met at Hood Aerodrome by the Pukaha Mount Bruce Board Chair Bob Francis, Board members, Iwi, Department of Conservation representatives, supporters and members of the general public. A brief welcoming ceremony will be held to celebrate the arrival of the birds before they are transported to Pukaha Mount Bruce, 30km north of Masterton on SH2.
You are warmly invited to be present at Hood Aerodrome for the arrival of the kiwi at approximately 1.30pm (to be confirmed) on Friday 7 May. A resident Pukaha Mount Bruce kiwi will attend the event and there will be interview and photograph opportunities at RNZAF Base Auckland, Hood Aerodrome and Pukaha Mount Bruce.
