Christchurch Symphony Orchestra presents...
Lamb & Hayward Masterworks Series - Firsts and Fantasy
New Zealand composer John Psathas who enjoyed great success with View from Olympus, and whose composition Luminous we featured earlier in the year, has composed his Marimba Concerto especially for Pedro Carneiro and Marc Taddei. It is with great pleasure that CSO is to be part of this world premiere tour. From Portugal, Pedro Carneiro is one of the very few percussion players to have established himself as one of the foremost global solo percussionists. Chief Conductor of the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra, he performs regularly throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and the USA. At the age of 32, Carneiro has commissioned and performed the world première of over 80 works by leading composers worldwide and appears regularly with a wide range of acclaimed musicians, including the Arditti and Tokyo Quartets, Christian Lindberg and Steve Reich.
Although having reputedly onlytaken the composer four days to write, Mozart’s Symphony No. 36 “Linz” has beautiful mellowness and a therapeutic effect that clearly reflects the elegant hospitality and cheerful surroundings Mozart experienced whilst staying in Linz.
Ravel’s Mother Goose, written in neo-classical style, is full of nostalgia and longing. This sophisticated, elegant work unfolds like a fairy tale.
Former Music Director of CSO, Marc Taddei, makes a welcome return for what will be an evening of Firsts and Fantasy.
