Adrian Wooldridge is a long-standing journalist for one of the world’s (and New Zealand’s) most popular magazines, The Economist: currently he writes the Schumpeter Column and is the Management Editor, having served as Washington Bureau Chief, Los Angeles Correspondent, and Social Policy Editor, specializing in education and health care.

He has co-authored (with fellow Economist journalist John Micklethwait) five books on globalization and business, the most recent of which is God is Back: How the Global Rise of Faith is Changing the World. An updated edition of The Witch Doctors, an entertaining yet serious guide to today’s management theories and gurus, is coming up. Adrian has written Economist surveys on entrepreneur¬ship and the global search for talent, on telecommunications, education, multinational companies and management consultancy.

He has also written public policy papers on education, and on meritocracy and classless societies.

He talks with New Zealand Herald Editor Tim Murphy about his wide-ranging fields of interest, his work, the famed Economist sense of humour, and the secret of the magazine’s success - one of the few with climbing circulation during the recession, including an impressive 66% increase in the Asia-Pacific region alone in the past ten years.

Presented as a part of the Auckland Writers and Readers Festival.
