The Pasifika Festival Opening Night Concert presents a journey around the islands in a celebration that opens up the village gateways and invites in all communities for the lead up of the Pasifika Festival day on Saturday 13 March.
Opening Night Concert features performers from 10 of the Pacific communities – Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, Fiji, Niue, Tahiti, Tokelau, Tuvalu, Kiribati and Aotearoa
These performances will be celebrating the 2010 icons - the molokau (centipede) and frangipani. Stories of these icons will be expressed through traditional and contemporary dance, song or story telling.
International guest artists are Mana Maoli from Hawaii, and Papua New Guinea Contemporary Dance troupe - Sunameke.
