Novelist Cormac McCarthy's spellbindingly bleak story of a post-apocalyptic road trip is sublimely served by "Proposition" director John Hillcoat's faithful adaptation.
Viggo Mortensen and newcomer Kodi Smit-McPhee play the father and son trudging across the scorched earth in search of food while avoiding feral, cannibalistic gangs. Stunningly bleak visuals and first-rate acting complement a story that celebrates the indestructible bond between father and son.
