Winner of Canada's 2005 Trillium Book Award for Poetry for his second book, drift, Kevin Connolly is one of those rare poets, read by poets and people who don't think they enjoy poetry at all.
He mashes up pop culture and remixes language - from that of the business meeting or the erratum slip to slippery political discourse and other poets' voices - to arrive at humorous, surreal, and irreverent combinations.
'Revolver', a collection of 45 poems, each written in a different style, is Connolly's attempt "to disprove this idea that poetry is just about a single ego expressing itself in the world". The judges who shortlisted it for the 2009 Griffin Prize described Connolly as "one of Canada's most profoundly engaging and rewarding poets", and his book as "a kind of stand-up comedy done with a flame-thrower". He has worked as a literary editor and arts journalist, and lives in Toronto with his partner, author Gil Adamson.
Connolly will be in conversation with Mark Williams.
