A short play first produced at the Royal Court Theatre, London in February 2009. This is the New Zealand premier and will be followed by discussion.
The play covers seven time-periods from the Holocaust to the 2009 Israeli military assault on Gaza. Jewish parents debate how to tell their children of past and current events. In powerful, poetic language resembling a litany, the play explores how the oppressed can become the oppressors, plus the universal difficulties encountered by parents in deciding what to tell their children of atrocities associated with their history. It was banned by the BBC, but performed in Tel Aviv, Israel, and other countries.
