Carolina Moon performs a unique program of songs for the Titirangi Festival of Music on Saturday 27 March, comprising the beautiful and rarely heard repertoire featured on her next planned album Mother Tongue.
Mother Tongue is a collection of songs from the heartlands of Sephardic Spain – songs borne by mothers, lovers, sisters and daughters of the Diaspora through generations of tradition. Sung in their original tongue, these ancient voices can be heard once again, standing seamlessly alongside selected original pieces and those from contemporary composers such as Mike Nock, Berio, Garbarek and Towner.
Songs from Carolina’s album The Shaman’s Kiss (finalist for Best Vocal Album in the Australian Jazz Awards 2003) will also be featured.
Performed in collaboration with visual projections by sound artist Maree Quinn.
Guitarist Nigel Gavin, as a soloist, will open the show
Line Up:
Carolina Moon – vocals, bells
Nigel Gavin - guitar, electric oud, mandolin, banjo
Roger Manins - soprano sax, bass clarinet, flute
Kevin Field - piano
Andrew Atwill – acoustic and electric bass
Ron Samsom - hand drums and drum set
Maree Quinn – visual projections
