National Maori Housing Conference

2010 will be a big year for Maori Housing.

Our National Maori Housing Conference aims to bring together grassroots leaders, experts, specialists and advocates from every layer of the New-Zealand housing sector.

This year our focus is to draw from this collective and weave a vision and strategy that will lead Maori Community Housing providers into the future. In weaving together we will examine the past, collectively identify issues in the present and cohesively strategise pathways to realise our vision. We believe this conference offers all the opportunity to "contribute together so that everyone may prosper"

The hui will focus on government housing Initiatives such as:
• the Māori Demonstration Partnerships via Housing NZ
• the new Kāinga Whenua mortgage product and,
• renewed developments by hapū and iwi in significant housing projects.

Event organiser Kaye-Maree Dunn says “now is a perfect time for hapū, iwi and communities to reclaim their power base in developing housing for the people. For many communities housing has been an ongoing sore, weeping for over 100 years – it’s time we confront these issues face on”.

The National Māori Housing Conference provides opportunities for organisations to weave together resources and knowledge that supports us to work smarter and better. It will focus on presentations and workshops that showcase successful papa kāinga/ housing developments, trade training models, design trends, advice on how to navigate government and legal processes and explore potential for joint ventures.
