The exhibition comprises of paintings in acrylic and mixed media, using elements of navigation charts with calculations that parallel painting construction.
Colin’s background as a painter and photographer underpin the solid processes of his work. He has completed a BFA with Honours from Elam School of Fine Arts in the 70’s and has also been teaching in high schools.
The paintings are based on Cook's navigation explorations around New Zealand especially the South Island regions and the exploration of new landscapes. They explore Milford Sound with images that evoke a sense of light verses dark with a brooding power that permeates the landscape through which he and we pass.
This new exhibition space is run as an informal Artist-run space, it’s just around the corner on Bankart Street. In the same building are three resident Artists, Amanda Watson, Glen Mossong, Yvette Harry-Wright. Their studios are also open for viewing.
