Acclaimed Wellington-based chamber choir The Tudor Consort will give their annual presentation of Music for Holy Week on Saturday 27 March at St Andrew's in the City, Palmerston North.
This year, they will perform a programme of settings of the Lamentation of Jeremiah, a series of texts describing the destruction of Jerusalem that were traditionally sung on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday.
Featured works include Thomas Tallis’s celebrated Lamentations, alongside the unique setting by 20th Century composer Ernst Krenek, which marries Renaissance style with modern-day harmony. Written while in exile in the United States in 1941, it represents Krenek’s personal protest against the horrors of the Second World War.
