Textile artist Clare Plug visited Antarctica in 2006 on the Artists to Antarctica programme. This exhibition presents her response to this icy continent in a series of evocative quilts and banners. Clare has described Antarctica as “a time capsule, an ark and an early warning station”, themes which find resonance amid the typically dark, sombre and poetic handling of surface and texture in her works.

Exhibition toured by Hawke’s Bay Museum and Art Gallery, and supported by Antarctica New Zealand, Creative New Zealand and the Mary Vigor Brown Trust.
