Aroha Festival - Takataapui Native Arts & Culture Festival.
Aroha Festival brings together Auckland's many diverse cultures to form a world-class arts festival for the city's gay and lesbian community and beyond, according to it’s organizer Mika.
"We invite our Pakeha, Polynesian, Asian and Indian brothers and sisters to join a celebration that is only possible in Auckland."
Running from 12-20 March 2010, the festival features a diverse programme of events ranging from Tribal Pop Opera which will see Mika performing in conjunction with The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, to cabaret and dance shows, to music workshops.
Events will be spread across a selection of large and small venues, including the Aotea Centre's ASB Theatre and Galatos Bar and Venue, with smaller events taking place in and around the K' Road precinct. Historic Beresford Square will be the site of the festival’s main outdoor event, Aroha Day, which promises six hours of free fun and entertainment.
The festival was made possible with the support of, amongst others, Creative NZ, Auckland City Council, Asia:NZ and K’ Road Business Association..
