Photographer and mother-of-six Pele Lolesi, still radiant despite terminal skin-cancer, presents her inaugural photography exhibition SCAR: a mark of hope. It's a series of photographic portraits of 23 fellow New Zealanders with melanoma who are living their passions, from hockey to a Harley.
Come support Pele, 39, as part of Melanoma Awareness Month.
For a donation of $25 or more, exhibition-goers get keepsake book SCAR: a mark of hope (also available from The Melanoma Foundation) which tells the stories of Pele and her subjects. Melanoma experts will speak at free public-information seminars in Auckland, Wellington and Tauranga.
Pele, who runs her own business One Life Photography, is determined to raise public awareness of this silent killer. New Zealand has the highest melanoma incidence rate in the world. Every year it kills nearly 300 New Zealanders and there are 2000 new diagnoses of a cancer that is largely preventable but often overlooked.
