Waikato Museum is thrilled to present a new play by New Zealand playwright Donna Banicevich Gera to celebrate International Women’s Day, Monday 8 March 2010.
A ‘play with life’ – a theatrical experience for New Zealand women, about New Zealand women, written and performed by New Zealand women, encompassing film work by a New Zealand woman.
Monday 8 March 2010 - 6:30pm
Tuesday 9 March 2010 - 2pm and 6:30pm
Based on a New Zealand woman’s life experiences over a 100-year time frame ' My Name is Ruhi' explores themes of social change, control and cultural interaction. This is the story of Ruhi, a 92 year old New Zealand woman who lost her name, her children, and control of her life when she ran away with an Irish migrant.
Through her eyes we witness the expectations, attitudes and life experiences within New Zealand society over a significant period of change and share her joy and pain. Not to be missed, this play will capture the audiences hearts and minds.
Cost: Gold Coin donation, all proceeds will go to women's refuge
As seating is limited, bookings are essential.
Writer: Donna Banicevich Gera (For a recent interview with Donna, see the Cultural Storytellers series on The Big Idea.)
Director: Toni Regan - Red Boots Productions
Actor: Noa Campbell.
