Fakakaukau – a Pacific debate series is another first-time event for Pasifika Festival, with Pacific academics, personalities, artists and experts coming together over three evenings in city centre venues to debate themes around identity, the arts, and indigenous Knowledge.
Fakakaukau runs from 4.30pm until 7pm from 8 to 10 March, with details as follows:
Monday, 8 March – “We are all Oceanians; Maori, Tongans, Fijians, I-Kiribati alike together.”
Tuesday, 9 March – “Only Pacific artists have the right to use Pacific motifs”
Wednesday, 10 March –“Including indigenous knowledge in our education system will hinder, not help, young people”.
Fakakaukau (the Tongan word for thoughts) is presented in association with
Te Puni Kōkiri.
