Justin Pearce will conduct the Wellington Chamber Orchestra in an exciting programme of music including the Shostakovich Symphony No 9, Chansons Gaillardes by Poulenc, the Egmont Overture by Beethoven and El amor brujo (Love the Magician) by Manuel de Falla, on Sunday 27 June at 2.30pm at St Andrews on the Terrace.

The Shostakovich Symphony No 9 is a short witty work with a strong sense of satire. Composed at the close of World War II it is the antithesis of a grand heroic symphony.
This is followed by a collection of ribald songs by the twentieth century composer Francis Poulenc, arranged by Justin Pearce for orchestra and baritone soloist Roger Wilson.
The much loved Egmont Overture will begin the second half of the programme, illustrating the story of an aristocrat who rose to the aid of his people, leading them in rebellion against an oppressor, and paying the ultimate price.
The final piece El amor brujo is in a gipsy style, and it evokes the spirit of Andalusia and its people, telling a story of the triumph of love over adversity.

Come and support an excellent local orchestra, and enjoy the comfortable surroundings and wonderful acoustics at St. Andrews on the Terrace.
