Based on the magical Margaret Mahy book The Word Witch, which recently won the Honour Award at the NZ Post Children’s Book Awards 2010, this exhibition features original illustrations, character sketches, renderings and doodles by the book's illustrator David Elliot.
Editor Tessa Duder describes the exhibition as “a warts and all look at David’s path to the finished book complete with trial tribulations, false starts and wrong turnings. Above all it is intended as a window into the magical world of imagination, a celebration of the creativity that, along with a good deal of hard work, lies behind a handsome book that will undoubtedly become a children’s classic.”
This exhibition set the scene for the Museum’s annual Sampler Season - 6 weeks of literary talks, Kids' Saturdays, Sunday afternoon concerts and school holiday programmes. See the Museum website for more details and a complete programme of these great events.
