The return of the Museum’s annual winter festival sees 6 weeks of literary talks, Kids' Saturdays, Sunday afternoon concerts and school holiday programmes. This years Sampler Season has a literature theme to coincide with the two imaginative exhibitions on show at the Museum.
The Making of the Word Witch is a creative look at David Elliot’s path to the finished illustrations for Margaret Mahy’s magical book The Word Witch features his original sketches and doodles.
Farmer Fred’s Cow is an exhibition of illustrations by artist David Waller that shows farm animals acting as spirit guides to help children deal with the sensitive issue of death in an inevitable and positive manner. Both are accompanied by explanations of the creative process.
There are so many great events during Sampler Season - including visits by both Margaret Mahy and David Elliot during the July school holidays - that there is bound to be something for everybody. For more details and a complete programme of all 6 weeks of events see the Museum website.
