“Rio Hunuki-Hemopo’s vinyl taster from his forthcoming solo album, is the most splendid slice of slo-mo hip-hop funk I’ve every heard emerge from this country. Produced by Mu, it is a irresistible mid tempo head nodder.”
Grant Smithies (Herald)

2010 brings exciting times for Rio Hunuki-Hemopo, former bass player and singer/songwriter of  the now de-funked Trinity Roots. Having spend the last few years touring/recording and play live throughout New Zealand and around the world, with the likes Fat Freddy’s Drop, Breaks Co-Op, Scribe, Fly my pretties, Hollie Smith and many more….

In October 2007 Rio was also a participant in The Red Bull Music Academy in Toronto. While there, he was honoured to collaborate and record with Steve Spacek, Mark Pritchard, Theo Parish, Wajeed and the legendary Afro-Beat Drummer Tony Allen. After returning Home he was then invited  to take part in ‘A Class of it’s Own’ (May 08) Red Bull Sessions and Collaborations recorded in Cape Town. This saw him again working with artists and producers from around the globe.

After the success in 2008, of Rio's, now sold out, limited release, 12inch EP, produce by Fat Freddy’s Drop master - Mu.
The live shows kicking at the beginning of 2009 with support slots for DJ Vadim and Fat Freddy's Drop (both here and Australia). These were undertaken as a 2 piece with Justin 'Firefly' Clarke on guitar and backing vocals. With live shows also expanding, to include another Conservatorium class mate on keys - James Illingworth and long time jamin companion Maaka McGregor (drums).

In 2010 Rio continues to write, having entered the Lyall Bay studio's of The Drop, where he is now crafting his first full length album, due for release later this year.

"An excellent 12" aurguably the most underated local release this year."

Martyn Pepperell (Ripitup)
