Life. Death. Resurrection. These eternal themes will be explored in The Tudor Consort’s presentation of 16th century poetry and music titled La Vie ... La Mort, focussing on the works of Jean Mouton (c 1459-1522) and Nicolas Gombert (c 1495- c 1560). Images of courtly life will be projected as the acclaimed chamber choir perform gems of the Franco-Flemish repertoire, including Mouton’s remarkable motet, Nesciens mater, which weaves four separate canons into one sublime whole. Gombert’s Musae Jovis is a moving tribute to his teacher, the incomparable Josquin Des Prez. The atmosphere of a French court of centuries past will be enhanced by readings of the contemporary poetry of Pierre de Ronsard.
