A cabaret of soulful, sweet, passionate and sassy blues from some of our finest blues divas:
Gilly Darbey (South Island based), check out her myspace page www.myspace.com/gillydarbey.
She has a voice that will knock your socks off and melt your insides all at once. She's played many national and international festival stages wowing audiences with her folk/blues sound. Gilly is going to open the show solo, so be on time!
Marg Layton, our local Queen of the Blues who sings with an integrity that reflects her lifelong immersion in the blues. She will be taking us back to the 30s and 40s for some oldtime women's blues, Marg will be supported by Bill Lake (Windy City Strugglers) and Chris Prowse (winner of Tui Folk Award 2009).
Lisa Tomlins, she's sultry, she hit's the spot, she can sing anything and own it, she's been a gun for hire for too many bands to name (Shaken Not Stirred, Hollie Smith, Deva Mahal, Fat Freddy's Drop, Trinity Roots, Twinset, The Vipers to name but a few) and she loves to sing the blues.
She'll be backed by fab bluesmen Darren Watson, Richard Te One and George Barris who obviously could be the 'show' themselves! But tonight it's all about the gals!
Laura Collins and Cindy Muggeridge (Mojo Mama), on piano based boogie and blues with Laura on sass and soulful vocals. The women are all about the 'show'. George Barris and Richard Te One will be stoking the engine.
