Artsight presents two inspiring hands-on workshops with painter Jason Hicks(painting) and printmaker Peter Lendvai(screen print) .
Jason Hicks Painting Workshop-19th-20th June
In this 'hands on' two day painting workshop will look at Jason Hicks painting practice and the concepts and techniques he explores. You will experiment with materials to create a painting rich in textures and layers. This workshop will give you the opportunity to investigate ideas in your own painting as well as learn from those around you.
Jason Hicks Bio
Hicks paintings capture the affinity that New Zealanders have with the land. His deeply textured paintings evoke nostalgia for a more innocent past while challenging you to contemplate what the future may hold. His work explore identity, time and place.Hicks work has featured in many New Zealand publications and he has exhibited widely. He has work in major private and corporate collections, both nationally and internationally. He has been selected for several major art awards, including the Norsewear and Waikato Art Awards and the Rosl Art UK travel scholarship. In 2009 he had a solo show at Mercedes Benz Wellington Star as the Artist in Residence at Samuel Marsden Collegiate School.
Peter Lendvai -Introduction to Screenprint-26th-27th June
Workshop Outline
This two day workshop is for beginners or those who have limited experience with screen print.You will explore different techniques for developing screen print using stencils and emulsion. You will need to bring your own black and white and colour design(ideally images should be printed on plastic transperancy(Mylar)-maximum size is A3).The process will use water-based inks on paper.If you have any questions about how you can prepare your ideas to transfer to screen prior to the course email fiona@artsight.co.nz
Peter lenDvai BIO
Hungarian born artist Peter Lendvai began his studies specialising in ceramics at the Secondary School of Arts and Crafts, Kaposvar, between 1991 and 1995 before going on to study at the Industrial School of Design and Interior Decoration, Budapest. In 1997 he was admitted to the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts graduating as a secondary Visual Arts teacher and with an MFA in Graphic Arts from the Department of Graphics and Visual Education.
Between 2002 and 2007 Lendvai was employed at the Mihaly Zichy Secondary School of Arts and Crafts,Kaposvar,where his taught multiple graphic techniques, artistic anatomy and history of art. During this period Lendvai also lectured in artistic anatomy in the Faculty of Art at the University of Kaposvar in Hungary. Since moving to New Zealand at the end of 2007 Lendvai's work has been strongly influenced by Polynesian art. Lendvai has facilitated several workshops in serigraphy and has shown his work in numerous exhibitions both in Hungary and New Zealand.
Our popular Artist workshops provide unique opportunities to engage with established New Zealand Artists and gain insight into their ideas and methods. These small group workshops follow a structured format allowing participants to develop their skills and understanding. As well as producing beautiful work to keep students complete the course with new found knowledge and inspiration.
