This story ( by Bruce Mason ) follows a boy through the summer of his adolescence in 1930s New Zealand - a summer where people are rioting and the depression has hit some families hard. As the boy witnesses these events he transitions from innocent childhood to the corrupt world of adults where injustice and broken dreams mark the end of his golden youth.
